I’m not particularly a NASCAR guy, and I’m guessing most of the guys reading this aren’t either, since we are going after the more-than-8-teeth demographic. So, to keep this short and sweet, Larson was participating in an iRacing game over Twitch with 60 other players Sunday night, and dropped an N-bomb, hard R and all. Now to be fair, if there was ever a sport where this would happen, it’s 100,000% going to be NASCAR.
Yikes, not a great look bud. What followed after this on Tuesday morning probably wouldn’t even surprise the most intense Mountain Dew addicts, as basically all of his sponsors dropped Larson, and issued out statements of disappointment. I have to say ‘basically all’, because there is one sponsor who is still behind him, even after this incident—Plan B.
In the most on-brand move of all time, the company dedicated to helping people when they make a huge mistake is standing behind someone who has made a huge mistake. They issued out a statement which said,
“As many of you know, we have been associated with Kyle Larson since 2013 […] Kyle has signed 1000’s and 1000’s of die cast cars for us and we have likely spent 20+ hours with and around him. Never once has he come across to us as a person will ill intent toward anyone and he would be the last person I would ever associate with any type of racism. Kyle called me personally earlier today to express his regret fullness about with transpired […] Although we do not condone or appreciate the slur Kyle used during his iRacing event last night, at the same time we know his is an awesome young man that made a mistake and we are going to stand behind him 100% and help any way we can”-Plan B Sales
There you have it, folks. Plan B likely spent 20+ hours with him and couldn’t sniff out even a hint of racism. I really think that this is the most I can bring myself to care about any NASCAR story, and I’m sure all the Bubba’s and Cletus’s of the world will eventually let this one fade out. So, just to tie a bow on this blog, in my very light Google search about him I found one interesting fact that made me chuckle. The number on his car? Jackie Robinson’s 42. Hahaha, NASCAR you never disappoint.
